-Finance and Stewardship Officer-

1. Purpose of Role

  • This role is responsible for managing the church’s financial activities, budgeting processes, stewardship programs, and resource development initiatives. This role ensures sound financial management, promotes transparency, strengthens donor relations, and supports long-term sustainability. 

2. Key Responsibilities

Financial Management and Operations

  • Accounting and Record-Keeping: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger entries, payments, and receipts using accounting software.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports (e.g, Statements, balance sheets, cash flow statement) to analyze the church’s financial growth and performance.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, and monitoring budget performance and expenditures to ensure spending remains within limits.
  • Cash Flow Management: Managing daily cash flow, overseeing the church’s accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, and ensuring timely payments and collection of debts.

Stewardship and Compliance

  • Ensuring Ethical Conduct: Handle all financial duties with integrity and ethical conduct and focus on the judicious management of resources for their intended purpose.
  • Compliance and Regulation: Ensuring that all financial records, procedures, and transactions adhere to standard accounting practices, internal policies, and relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Internal Control and Risk Management: Development and implementation of effective internal controls to proactively identify and mitigate financial risk, thereby preventing fraud and mismanagement.
  • Auditing and Documentation: Coordinating the compilation of necessary documentation for internal and external audits, serving as a key point of contact for auditors, and ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Transparency and Accountability: promoting transparency in financial operations and reporting to stakeholders, or the public, holding the organization accountable for how funds are utilized.

3. Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Discretion, integrity, and a high sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage confidential information.

4. Performance indicator

  • Accuracy and timeliness of reports.
  • Budget adherence and forecast accuracy. 
  • Donor retention rate and giving growth %.  
  • Audit finding resolution rate. 
  • Financial transparency index.

5. Working Relationships

  • Reports To: Admin Pastor
  • Works With: Church accountant, Finance & Facility Teams
  • Supervises: Admin pastor.

6. Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of accounting experience in a financial firm.
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, fund accounting systems) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to reconcile accounts.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and commitment to Christian values and stewardship.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial data to leadership.
  • Spiritual maturity and active Christian faith; commitment to the church’s mission, ethics, and values.
  • Required: Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, or CPA)
